Volunteering with the European Solidarity Corps has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Since December 2024, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to the work of the Asociación Marroquí para la Integración de los Inmigrantes in Málaga an organisation deeply committed to inclusion, diversity, and support for migrant communities.
From day one, I felt welcomed—not only by the team but also by the vibrant community the organisation serves. Working closely with people from different cultural and social backgrounds, listening to their stories, and helping them navigate their new lives in Spain gave deep meaning to my daily work.
Personally, this experience has helped me grow in ways I never imagined. I became more adaptable, patient, and open-minded. Professionally, I gained valuable skills in intercultural communication, teamwork, community engagement, and event organisation. I also improved my Spanish, which made me feel more connected to the local culture and people.
Of course, there were challenges adapting to a new environment, learning how to support people effectively, and sometimes facing language barriers. But every difficulty became a lesson and pushed me to grow stronger and more confident.
Some of my favourite moments include organising cultural events, sharing meals and laughter with other volunteers, and simply being present for those who needed a listening ear. Living in Málaga a city full of warmth, history, and life was a beautiful part of this journey.
I want to thank Intercambia from the bottom of my heart for giving me the chance to be part of this experience. Their support, guidance, and belief in young people like me made all the difference.
What I’m taking away from this project is a renewed sense of solidarity, a deeper understanding of social realities, and the certainty that I want to continue working in spaces that foster inclusion, equality, and human connection.
To anyone considering joining the European Solidarity Corps: Go for it. You will grow, learn, and carry this experience with you forever.
